At an exclusive event at the Guggenheim Museum in New York, the Benjamin Moore Colour & Design team unveilled this year’s choice for Colour of the Year: Caliente AF-290.
The team travelled nearly 100,000 miles, across 30 cities in 12 countries, for this year’s Colour of the Year inspiration. Garnering inspiration from architecture, pop culture, fashion and much more, one theme became clear. Red hues dominated, representing an emboldened mood of change and confidence worldwide.
One key moment in the journey was at the Women’s March in Washington, where a stream of pink-hatted protesters filled the streets and demanded to be heard.
Director of Strategic Design Intelligence, Ellen O’Neill put it this way: “You just saw this undulating wave of colour—it was the pink spectrum, everything from shocking to dusty rose to red. I walked away from that going: Okay, right now, colour is voice.”
“Strong, radiant and full of energy, Caliente AF-290 is total confidence. It is pleasing, passionate and makes people feel special, like ‘red carpet treatment’,” said O’Neill
